ACT Nation Building Stimulus Package

Industry Reference Group

This group was formed to facilitate the delivery of both Nation Building projects and the Territory’s own capital works program. This Group is made up of representatives from the Stimulus Taskforce, Canberra Business Council, Property Council, MBA, HIA, Civil Contractors, Institution of Engineers, Australian Institute of Architects and Australian Institute of Project Management and a number of Government agencies.


Status of Nation Building in the ACT

A regular report on the implementation of the Nation Building programs in the ACT is prepared by the Stimulus Taskforce. This report provides details of project commencements and completions and where information is available how the ACT is performing against national benchmarks. 


Background

In response to the global financial crisis the Commonwealth Government developed and implemented this plan and funded a range of projects under the Jobs Fund. The intent of these initiatives was to provide stimulus to economic growth through targeted bonuses to low and middle income households and delivering long term nation building investments.


Funding of $332.8 million is allocated to the ACT for projects under the following programs:

In February 2009 a Taskforce was established in the ACT led by a Coordinator General, Ms Sandra Lambert, reporting directly to the Chief Minister. This Taskforce had responsibility for overseeing the rollout of planned infrastructure and construction in the ACT under the programs.

On completion of the initial policy and planning changes, focus shifted to the delivery of the programs. The Taskforce reformed to continue overseeing the program through the new Coordinator General, Mr David Dawes.
