Woden Construction Projects
The Woden Region was the first ‘satellite city’ of Canberra to be built, and was established in the 1960s. Its current population was approximately 33,450 people at 30 June 2008.1 Its population is projected to increase to approximately 35,300 by 2019.2
The Woden Town Centre includes a major shopping centre, known as Woden Plaza, and is the site of a number of Commonwealth Government departments, including Health and Ageing and Veterans’ Affairs.
The Canberra Hospital is situated in Woden. It is the largest hospital in the Region with a range of planned and ongoing capital works. The Canberra Institute of Technology which offers a range of tertiary level educational and trade courses is also located in Woden. A number of diplomatic missions are located in Woden.
