Belconnen Construction Projects

Belconnen is a major town centre with a population of approximately 89,750 people located in the north west of Canberra at 30 June 2008.1 Its population is projected to increase to approximately 94,850 by 2019.2

Most of Belconnen was established during the 1970s, but there has been considerable commercial and residential development since this time. Land has recently been released for development in Bruce and Macgregor West.

Belconnen is home to the Australian Institute of Sport and Canberra Stadium, the largest sporting venue in Canberra. The University of Canberra, is also located in Belconnen. The Region has a major shopping centre with supermarkets and department stores.  

A number of Commonwealth Government departments and agencies are located in Belconnen, including the Department of Immigration and Citizenship, Comsuper, the Australian Taxation Office and the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
