Home Buyer Assistance & Concessions

The ACT Government offers a range of assistance to prospective home buyers in the ACT.

  • FIRST HOME OWNER GRANT (FHOG) 
    The grant provides up to $7,000 to first home buyers to purchase their first home. There are eligibility requirements and price cap limits.

  • HOME BUYER CONCESSION SCHEME (HBCS)
    You may be eligible for the HBCS if your income is less than $120,000.  This initiative assists persons in purchasing a residential home or residential vacant land by charging duty at a concessional rate.

  • PENSIONER DUTY CONCESSION SCHEME (PDCS)
    A concessional rate of duty that assists eligible pensioners who own property to move when they purchase a residential home or residential vacant land, e.g. from a house to a townhouse.

  • DEFERRED DUTY SCHEME
    You can defer the payment of duty if you are eligible for the FHOG or the HBCS and purchase a property priced at or below the relevant HBCS upper property threshold.

  • MORTGAGE RELIEF
    The Mortgage Relief Fund aims to provide repayable, interest free loans to people who are experiencing short term mortgage stress due to an unforeseen change in their circumstances (e.g loss of employment, sudden illness or injury.)
