The ACT Public Service is implementing the recommendations of the Hawke Review.
On 23 March 2011, the former Chief Minister Jon Stanhope announced that the ACT Government was to adopt the proposal recommended by Dr Allan Hawke AC to establish a single agency, of nine directorates as the administrative basis of the ACT Public Service (Media Release).
On 17 May 2011, David Dawes officially took on the role as Director-General of the Economic Development Directorate replacing the Department of Land and Property Services and has absorbed a number of new functions including:
- ACT Tourism (formerly in CMD).
- ACT Gambling & Racing Commission
- Business & Industry Development (formerly in CMD).
- Sport & Recreation (formerly in TaMS).
- Special Events (formerly in CMD).
- Territory Venues & Events (formerly in TaMS).
- Exhibition Park in Canberra
- Live in Canberra (formerly in CMD).
The portfolio also includes the Land Development Agency.
